The San Francisco 49ers are likely to be without starting QB Brock Purdy on Sunday.

The former Mr. Irrelevant is currently under concussion protocol, and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be cleared in time for their matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

With that in mind, former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky stated that the Niners offense shouldn’t skip a beat with Darnold taking over for Purdy.

In the latest edition of ESPN’s “Get Up,” Orlovsky said that even though Purdy has been elite and a top-five quarterback this season, the situation is still ideal for Darnold and the Niners.

Orlovsky said that Darnold would be the most talented quarterback Kyle Shanahan has had since, at least, Matt Ryan.

He added that Darnold has been a part of some of the worst possible situations in the league since he became a pro, and he’s shown some good and some bad.

Nonetheless, he has never been in such a positive situation in terms of his supporting cast, system, and offensive play-caller.

Orlovsky added that Trent Williams playing will obviously have a major impact on the offense’s chances to get past the Bengals’ stout defensive line, but he doesn’t think Darnold is going to be an issue.

Darnold joined the Niners looking to get a chance to start.

And while the Niners have been quite high on Purdy in the past, perhaps this could give him a prime chance to take the reins of the offense, especially considering how much Purdy has struggled in their back-to-back losses.
