The New York Giants defense surrendered the 6th-most yards in the NFL last season, although it led the league with 31 takeaways.

However, much of the team’s secondary is hitting free agency, including starting cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, starting free safety Xavier McKinney, and rotational corners Darnay Holmes and Nick McCloud.

Help could be on the way, as according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Giants are reportedly hosting veteran CB Darious Williams today.

Williams was a cap casualty by the Jacksonville Jaguars heading into free agency and is coming off one of his best seasons that saw him post 19 pass deflections and his first four interceptions since 2020.

Williams is a reliable veteran who played all 17 games in each of his two seasons in Jacksonville.

He came into the league as an undrafted free agent and also played every game for the Rams in 2020, where he won his first Super Bowl and posted four interceptions as well.

With a lot of uncertainty at the position for New York, Williams would bring plenty of stability and reliability for a team that could certainly use it.

It’s tough to see the Giants bringing back Adoree’ Jackson, whose performance has been up-and-down during his three years with the G-Men.

New York gave Jackson a 3-year, $39 million deal before the 2021 season hoping to build on the promise he showed in Tennessee, but Jackson posted just two interceptions in three years while also missing 13 games.

Williams would project to start opposite last year’s first-round pick, Deonte Banks, who had an impressive 64 tackles and two picks as a rookie.
