This week marked the end of the Blake Snell saga, at least for now.

After rumors and endless speculation, the reigning NL Cy Young award winner signed a two-year, $62 million contract with the San Francisco Giants.

Initially asking for well over $200 million from teams, Snell and his agent Scott Boras were forced to take a lesser deal because teams had signaled that they had moved on from the idea of inking him so close to the start of the season.

At least Snell was able to get a nice $31 million AAV (average annual value) and gets to opt-out of the deal after the 2024 campaign if he wants.

The Giants, who quietly put together a competitive team, posted some pictures of Snell in spring training, wearing his new threads.

Giants fans got used to watching him with his San Diego Padres uniform.

Now, he is one of their own, at least for a year.

Snell will form a powerful 1-2 punch with right-hander Logan Webb, who finished second in the NL Cy Young voting last year behind Snell.

They also brought in center fielder Jung-Hoo Lee, slugger Jorge Soler, third baseman Matt Chapman, and reliever-converted-into-starter Jordan Hicks, among others.

The Giants were not that far from making the playoffs last year, and their spending spree will likely put them closer to their goal.

Maybe they won’t win their division (and they might, because baseball can’t be predicted), but that doesn’t mean they can’t take the World Series.

Having a pitcher like Snell, capable of posting a 2.25 ERA and striking out 234 hitters like he did last year, certainly helps.
