The Philadelphia 76ers will begin their 2023-24 NBA season on Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks, but they could be shorthanded.

The 76ers have been without James Harden, who missed all four of the team’s preseason games as well as multiple practices.

Harden’s relationship with Philadelphia deteriorated over the offseason and it’s only a matter of time until Daryl Morey trades the star guard.

The former MVP has been adamant about wanting to get traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, but so far there have been no updates regarding a potential deal.

As of now, it’s uncertain whether or not Harden will be available for the 76ers’ first game.

The organization has explained that Harden has been dealing with a personal matter and it looks like more details surfaced via Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.

“Harden’s return is uncertain because he’s tending to his mom who is ill, I’m told. The mindset of the 76ers PG is that the health of his mother comes first,” Robinson said.

If the report is true, then it would make sense why Harden has been away from the team as family will always come before basketball.

It must be a tough time for Harden and his family, though that still doesn’t take away from the fact that the situation with the 76ers is starting to become untenable.

Morey will continue to hold out for the best possible deal, but the sooner he and the organization are able to move on from Harden the better the team will be in the short and potentially long-term.
