The Chicago Bears once again have the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, and unlike last year, it looks likely that they will keep it.

Last year, they traded the No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers for star wide receiver D.J. Moore and the pick that turned out to be the No. 1 overall selection this year.

If Chicago does indeed use that No. 1 pick on a quarterback, it will have to trade incumbent starter Justin Fields, and thus Mike Greenberg said on ESPN Radio that Fields should be traded before free agency starts.

“I’d be surprised if Fields isn’t traded by the end of the week,” he said.

In three pro seasons, Fields has failed to show any real improvement with his passing, and for his career, he has completed just 60.3 percent of his pass attempts and his interception rate is 3.1 percent, which is quite high.

Still, there are some who feel he could succeed a little more on a different team, and there should be multiple teams with at least some interest in him on the trade market.

The Bears are in an enviable position, not just because they have the No. 1 pick and a possible trade asset in Fields, but also because they additionally have the No. 9 pick and more salary cap space than most other teams.

Thus, they seem well-positioned to address multiple needs very quickly this offseason.

Chicago already has Moore, who put up 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns, as well as some young studs on defense, including Pro Bowl defensive lineman Montez Sweat, and many feel they are close to being a playoff-caliber team.
