The Atlanta Falcons need to get better at quarterback.

They’ve won just seven games in three consecutive campaigns, and that’s despite having plenty of talent and playing in arguably the weakest division in the National Football League.

Considering that, Dan Graziano of ESPN reports that the team is expected to make a ‘strong pursuit’ of Kirk Cousins if he makes it to free agency (Via Dov Kleiman).

Surprisingly, it seems like Cousins is now their primary target, even ahead of trading for Justin Fields.

This is a bit of a shock because they were the odds-on favorite to trade for the out-of-favor Chicago Bears quarterback, who’s a hometown player and shouldn’t be that expensive to get in a trade.

Cousins is a very good player, but he comes with plenty of baggage.

He’s going to demand a huge salary, has failed to win big games throughout the course of his career, and is coming off a major injury.

On top of that, he’s already 35 years of age.

Fields could also be costly because he’ll be eligible to sign a contract extension, but he has a higher upside and would be a more logical choice for them because of his age.

Whatever the case, the team needs to get someone who could finally make the most of the playmakers they’ve gathered on offense, whether it’s Cousins, Fields, or even Russell Wilson.

Drake London, Bijan Robinson, and Kyle Pitts are all expected to take a massive leap forward now that they won’t have Desmond Ridder, Taylor Heinicke, or Marcus Mariota behind center.
