The NFL season isn’t at its midway point yet, but there are a handful of teams that should be getting nervous about their chances of making the playoffs.

One of those teams is the Cincinnati Bengals, a team that most expected to be in the hunt for a spot in the Super Bowl, if not the favorite to get there.

They currently hold a 3-3 record and will have a difficult test this Sunday when they visit the 5-2 San Francisco 49ers, and Nick Wright said on “First Things First” that if they lose on Sunday, they will be “done.”

According to Wright, even if they do defeat San Francisco, they have dug themselves too big a hole to be considered true championship contenders.

Wright pointed out that the Bengals’ remaining schedule is challenging, with games versus the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cleveland Browns coming up.

Cincinnati has won their last two games, and star quarterback Joe Burrow may be regaining his mojo after a very weak start to the season.

He has been dealing with a strained calf since training camp, and as Wright pointed out, his yards per pass attempt average is unusually low this season, perhaps as a result of his calf ailment.

If there is some hope for the Bengals this weekend, it’s the fact that the 49ers have lost two games in a row and are starting to look vulnerable, especially when it comes to their secondary.

Everyone expects wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase to have a big game, but fellow wideout Tee Higgins, who has played poorly this year, needs to step up if the Bengals are to leave California with a victory.
