For years, fans and analysts have criticized Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays have played their home games since entering the league in 1998.

The distance from downtown, its design, and other elements and factors have been most frequently criticized by those who have been there.

In fact, the league has stated that replacing Tropicana Field is one of its priorities before thinking about an expansion project.

At long last, there appears to be concrete plans to build a new stadium for the Rays.

“After 16 years of searching, the Tampa Bay Rays are set to announce a new stadium deal in St. Petersburg. • $1.2 billion • 30,000 seats, fixed dome • Part of 86-acre redevelopment. It’s set to open by 2028,” Front Office Sports tweeted, via the Tampa Bay Times.

To the contrary of what happens with the Oakland Athletics, the Rays are a successful team when it comes to performance and have been for years.

Their attendance numbers aren’t the best, but the league and the organization hope that with the new stadium, they will improve.

The new stadium is set to open in five years, in 2028.

It’s nice to see the Rays taking an important step forward towards staying in MLB, since they have been one of the best teams in the league still without a World Series trophy.

This year, Tampa is 92-59, second in the AL East and occupying the first Wild Card spot in the American League.

They have an incredibly competitive roster and look set to make another run at the Fall Classic.
