After an impressive 2023 NFL regular season that resulted in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the NFC South division title, veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield led the team into the NFL playoffs with the tall task of taking down the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fortunately, the Buccaneers’ solid play from the regular season carried over into the postseason as they were able to crush the defending NFC champions with relative ease, which set up a matchup with the Detroit Lions.

Jared Goff and company proved to be too much to handle for Mayfield’s squad, but the team had already exceeded expectations, which boded well for the veteran quarterback and contract talks in the offseason.

All signs pointed to Mayfield signing a long-term contract with the Buccaneers or landing with another quarterback-needy team on a lucrative short-term deal.

Ultimately, the Buccaneers didn’t waste much time getting a deal done with Mayfield, as he signed a lucrative long-term deal with Tampa Bay on Sunday, which drew high praise from Skip Bayless of FOX Sports.

“Congrats to Baker Mayfield. Right choice because of right situation. But bigger congrats to the Bucs. Baker will be a STEAL for just 30 mil next year,” Bayless tweeted.

Although it remains to be seen if Mayfield can have a repeat performance next season, the Buccaneers seem to have made the right move here, as they likely weren’t going to be able to do better than the former No. 1 overall draft pick this offseason.

Mayfield and the Buccaneers might be able to make some noise again next season as the team was able to retain star wide receiver Mike Evans on a two-year deal recently and may be able to bring in more talent on offense in free agency.
