Derrick Rose said he isn’t going to serve as a babysitter with his new team the Memphis Grizzlies – but could he be a mentor?

That is what some people are thinking now that Rose will be playing alongside Ja Morant, a man who clearly needs guidance when it comes to his off-court activities.

Skip Bayless spoke about this on Thursday’s “Undisputed.”

“Derrick Rose is the perfect mentor for Ja Morant,” Bayless said, noting that the two players have a lot in common.

Rose knows the pressures of stardom, he also knows what it’s like to be Memphis royalty, and he knows how to get on the right path after personal choices risk derailing a career.

Will this all work to fix Morant’s trajectory?

Morant is definitely on very thin ice now.

Not only does he have to miss the first 25 games of the season because of a league suspension, but if he slips up again and makes another mistake, his entire career could be in serious jeopardy.

Rose wants to play basketball and he isn’t looking to look after other players.

He recently said that he’s not there to monitor his teammates.

But there is no doubt that his experience, expertise, calm demeanor, and personality could have a strong impact on Morant.

To be fair, Rose could also be an asset to the team in other ways.

Injuries have plagued him over the years but when he is healthy, he is still capable of delivering double-digits for the Grizzlies.

There is a very good chance the former Rookie of the Year could come in clutch and help the Grizzlies in some tight games.

He could be a mentor for Morant, but he could also be even more.
